A world's first for players who are blind or partially sighted

When the world's first Blind Football Academy was opened by Sir Trevor Brooking at the Royal NAtional COllege for the Blind two years ago, it had its sights set on training up the next generation of international footballers, and on promoting the game at grass roots level.

It seems to be doing that and some. Two of RNCB's academy students - Dan English, and Jon Heenan - were picked for the England squad when they competed in this year's IBSA World Blind Football Championships, which saw ten of the world's best blind teams competing for the most prestigious prize in the sport. They are now training in preparation for the Paralympics in London 2012.

A pathway into a sporting future

RNCB's Football Academy offers you the chance to build 16 hours football training into your programme of studies and experience blind and partially sighted football at the very highest level. This could be just the platform you need to develop your footballing skills, get noticed by talent scouts and selected to represent your country in the national and international arena.

The college provides an opportunity for players to develop all areas of their game through expert coaching from trained, experienced staff, with the view to producing players with the ability to compete at both national and international levels. RNCB players participate in the Nationally Visually Impaired Football League, with regular matches all over the country. The College also hosts the National Blind Football League, with monthly fixtures.
